The Swan Valley Stampeders, along with the Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation, will be holding our first-ever Hockey is for Everyone game night Friday, Feb. 10 at the Centennial Arena.
The Stampeders will be playing their Treaty 4 Territory rivals, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m..
The night will feature an opening ceremony, an honorary drum song, peace offerings, presenting of jerseys, a ceremonial puck drop and the national anthem will be sung in Cree. Our first intermission will have a drum song performed and, in the second intermission, we will have pedal tractor races for prizes.
Hockey is for Everyone is a night to provide awareness and a positive environment for players, families and fans of every race, religion, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, or ability.
It is crucial that we support everyone who wants to play, or is already playing the sport they love, no matter their background.
The Stampeders will be wearing a special game night jersey that was designed by Cody Manchester and members of the Wuski Sipihk First Nation. The colours and design represent WSFN and inclusion for all.
The Stampeders will also be wearing these jerseys in Waywayseecappo Saturday, Feb. 11 against the Wolverines and at a later date before being auctioned off. Please stay tuned for further announcements on that.
Please plan to attend the evening and help us celebrate everyone who loves the game of hockey, together as one.
Tickets can be purchased online through Showpass at stampedershockey.com, through our app or at the door. Plan to purchase in advance as roughly 300 tickets have already been sold. 12 and under are free all season courtesy of the Elbert Chartrand Friendship Centre.
